Community Job schemes to be reviewed

Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton has told the Seanad that two reviews of funding for Community Employment Schemes will be completed by the end of March.
Joan Burton said support will be given to help make the schemes viable.
€27.5m of cuts to the schemes sparked protests after the Budget last December.
But the Minister said today that her Department will continue to provide funding for schemes affected by changes announced in the Budget.
Minister Bruton said that the reviews will look at finding alternative sources of funding from other State Agencies, and examine the possibility of the Schemes generating revenue themselves.
€360m was spent on CE Schemes in 2011 but this year's budget has just €315m available.
